Her story
Anakaren Medina, better known around Shawnee as Lady Barber KC, has wanted to do hair since she was a little girl watching her mother and aunt work. She trained as a cosmetologist, then went back for her barber's license, and in 2019 co-opened Exquisite Cutz KC, the shop where her chair still sits today.
"A haircut or color is more than just a service. It's an experience."
That dual license is the point: one barber who is as comfortable with a skin fade and a straight razor as with color and long layers. Men, women and kids all sit in the same chair, and the fade work is what people talk about.
